Take a moment and think about something you once believed you would never survive.
Now look at where you are.
You survived it.
Maybe you didn’t walk through it perfectly. Maybe you cried. Maybe you became angry. Maybe you questioned God. Maybe you had days when getting out of bed required more strength than anyone around you realized.
But you are here.
Isaiah 43:2 does not say that God’s people will never encounter water or fire.
It promises His presence through them.
That distinction matters.
Sometimes we believe God’s protection means preventing every difficult experience. But Scripture repeatedly shows God sustaining His people in circumstances they could not have overcome by their own strength.
The water came—but it did not carry you away.
The fire came—but it did not consume you.
The disappointment came—but you continued.
The rejection came—but you rebuilt.
The setback came—but you learned.
The tears came—but eventually you smiled again.
Your scars are not evidence that you lost.
Sometimes scars are evidence that the wound did not win.
Stop being ashamed of seasons you had to survive.
You may have made mistakes while trying to find your way through them. Learn from those mistakes. Make amends where necessary. Grow wiser.
But don’t live forever condemning an earlier version of yourself who was doing everything possible to keep going.
You know things now that you did not know then.
You have strength now that you did not have then.
You have wisdom now that experience had not yet taught you.
And perhaps one of the greatest testimonies you can carry into your next season is simply this:
God brought me through.
