Scripture: James 2:16-17: “And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”

It is easy to say that we hope someone feels better. Sometimes those words need the company of practical help. James 2:16-17 appears in a passage connecting faith with action. The example concerns someone who lacks basic necessities and receives only a well-wishing response.

Look at one need within reach. Could you provide groceries, share information about a useful service, or help with a task? Ask what the person needs and respect their answer. If you cannot meet the need yourself, you may be able to help connect them with someone who can.

Prayer and practical care can belong together. Pray with sincerity, then consider what you are able to do responsibly. Avoid making promises you cannot keep. Even modest help can express real attention when it answers an actual need. Let today’s compassion take a form someone can use.
