Scripture: 3 John 1:4: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”

The writer expresses great joy in hearing that his spiritual children are walking in truth. Read KJV.

Growth is often easier to notice after a long stretch of practice. Someone becomes more honest, more patient, or more willing to serve. In 3 John 1:4, the writer celebrates people walking in truth. His joy is connected to their faithful lives.

Think of a person you have encouraged or taught. Have you noticed progress they might not see? Tell them specifically. You could acknowledge the care they showed in a difficult conversation or their willingness to follow through on a commitment.

Encouragement works best when it respects the learner’s own journey. Avoid turning their progress into credit for yourself. Ask what they are learning and listen to their response. Celebrate faithful character as well as visible achievement. A thoughtful word can help someone recognize meaningful growth and continue practicing it. There is joy available in seeing another person become steadier in truth and love.
