Scripture: James 3:17: “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.“

Wisdom from above is pure, peaceable, gentle, receptive, merciful, fruitful in goodness, impartial, and sincere. Confident advice can sound convincing. Yet confidence alone does not establish wisdom. James 3:17 describes the character of wisdom from above. Its gentleness, mercy, and sincerity give us a thoughtful way to examine the counsel we receive and the counsel we offer.

Before following advice, ask a few questions. Does it require dishonesty? Does it treat people fairly? Can its giver listen to relevant concerns? Does it encourage a response marked by care? These questions can help when a decision feels urgent or opinions are loud.

Examine your own approach too. You may have a useful insight and still need to express it more gently. Make room for information you have missed. Pray, study the relevant Scripture, and consult someone whose conduct supports their words. Wisdom becomes visible in how we handle people while seeking a sound decision.
