Scripture: Luke 14:13: “But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:”
Jesus tells a host to include poor people and people with disabilities when offering a feast. Read KJV.
It is natural to invite people who are familiar and likely to invite us back. In Luke 14, Jesus challenges hospitality shaped by repayment and status. Verse 13 directs attention to people who may be excluded from ordinary social circles.
Think about the spaces you help create. Is there a newcomer who needs a welcome? Could an event be easier to attend with clear directions, an accessible entrance, or a considerate meal option? Ask people what would help rather than deciding for them.
Hospitality does not require a perfect house or elaborate event. It can begin with a seat, a name remembered, and a sincere conversation. Make room without treating anyone as a project or displaying their circumstances for praise. Jesus’ teaching invites generous welcome that respects the person receiving it. Consider one way to widen your circle with dignity today.
