Scripture: Psalm 119:37: “Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.”

The psalmist asks God to turn his eyes from worthless things and give him life in God’s way. One look becomes another. Soon a few spare minutes have become a long session of comparison, outrage, or distraction. Psalm 119:37 gives us a prayer for redirecting attention toward God’s way. Its concern reaches beyond a screen to whatever repeatedly occupies our inner life.

Enjoyment and recreation have a place. The question is whether a particular pattern leaves you able to love, learn, and attend to your responsibilities. Notice how you feel after engaging with a recurring source of content. Does it encourage gratitude and thoughtful action, or leave you restless and contemptuous?

Choose a replacement rather than relying only on restriction. Read a passage, call a friend, take a walk, or complete one neglected task. Ask God to help you see what deserves your attention. You are practicing a daily form of stewardship over what enters your thoughts.
