Scripture: Psalm 56:8: “Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?”
Grief can interrupt an ordinary day. A song, an empty chair, or an unexpected memory can bring tears before you are ready. Psalm 56:8 uses the tender imagery of collected tears and a written record. In a psalm shaped by fear and opposition, sorrow is brought into God’s attentive care.
You do not have to hurry past what hurts to make your prayer acceptable. Name the loss. Remember the person. Tell God what you miss. If words are difficult, sitting quietly with a trusted companion can be a loving response.
Today, let care be concrete. Eat something nourishing, take needed rest, or ask someone to check in. Offer another grieving person simple presence without demanding an explanation. The passage invites us to bring sorrow to God with the hope that we are known in the midst of it.
